Tools and Materials Required for Neat Cross-stitching

As a mom, you might sometimes need a relaxing activity to unwind a little. Being a mother is a tough job, you’ll experience a lot of tests like how you should choose the best travelling gear for your baby. Before you were a mom, travelling is a way to unwind but now, it’s kinda stressful. But everything’s worth it when you see your baby smile. Visit for more mommy tips but for now, let’s focus on a mind-relaxing hobby, and that is cross-stitching.

Cross-stitching is a beautiful embroidery style used to prepare attractive designs on home articles and stylish dresses. You can start with small projects like making a table runner and proceed on to embroider a bed sheet or a curtain. This counted thread embroidery trend can be utilized to place very intricate patterns on fabric.

If your passion is to embroider, then you must attempt cross stitching which is one of the easiest stitches to learn. The things you will require are the following:

Design sheet with color reference

The very first requirement is the design sheet. You can get a design of your choice in magazines, embroidery books or even on websites. Select an easy or intricate design to suit your skill level. Ensure that the design has well defined and numbered key reference for colors.

The second requirement is your fabric. Cross stitch needs counting of squares on the fabric. So the most suitable fabric for cross- stitching is Cotton Aida or some other even-weave material of desired color.

Embroidery floss

The third material required is the embroidery floss. The design sheet will provide you with the keys for the colors of the floss. These have six strands and you can use 2, 3 or 6 strands according to the thickness of the fabric and requirement of your design.

Blunt tipped tapestry needles are most suitable for cross stitching.

Embroidery hoops or scroll bars

The stitches go even and the work becomes neat if the fabric remains taut and stretched evenly. You will need to have a hoop or a scroll bar for this purpose.

A pair of sharp scissors is most essential for trimming and cutting floss. A larger sized scissor will be needed if you have to trim your fabric.

Magnifiers are needed for working with multi-shaded complicated design. They help to enlarge the design and make counting of stitches more convenient.

Magnetic needle holder

You will need a magnetic needle holder to help you keep your needles safe and within your reach. Dropping of needles here and there can cause minor accidents too.

Working in broad daylight is best for needle craft projects. However, if you get free time only at night, you should also have some proper lighting arrangement.

Arrange for these and enjoy your cross stitching project.

Unique Cross Stitch Designs

Cross Stitching is great fun if you love it though it can prove tough if it’s not your interest. Practice holds the key when it comes to getting good at cross stitching and one you master the main art, everything would become easy. It would then depend on your imagination and your ability to make your ideas a reality.

I am sharing a few of my best designs so as to help you in finding inspiration for your own ideas.

You must be wondering as to what that is! Well, they are basically just the germs and microbes which are neatly stitched. If you are a biology student then you can actually get inspiration from your own course books.

Rather than writing the alphabets on a board or notebook to make your child learn, it is better to stitch these alphabets to make things easier for you. They will learn the shapes and can quickly adopt.

You can also create different shapes and designs according to your choices. Look at this design. It looks like a sun but the rays are curvy. You can design any shape and add some uniqueness to it. If you are creative then it is not a hard task to design anything unique but your sewing must be perfect in order to get the desired results.

For any upcoming marriage of your friend or family member, this cross stitched bride and groom will be ideal to give as a marriage gift. I made pattern for my aunt’s wedding but I used more colors because I wanted to make sure that that the pattern represented the colorful environment of the wedding. For events like marriages, you can try different things like wishing them through your statement with even fireworks as background.

This pattern is one of my favorites. This eye-catcher is cross stitched by one of my relatives. She is excellent in her work and the above picture says it all. The neatness in this design is exemplary and is a must when designing unique cross stitched items.

This is another one of my cousin’s masterpieces. The use of colors in the pattern is amazing and it all adds up to set a wonderful evening scene in the pattern.

If you want to create awesome designs and unique patterns, what’s important is to ensure that you let your imagination do the main work. Your skills at cross stitching though should be great as well so that the picture in your mind is translated exactly on paper.

Cross Stitch Patterns for Babies

Babies are very cute and for these cuties, the things related to them should also be very cute. You can design many different cross stitch patterns for your babies and make their life more colorful. The key to finding success with patterns for babies is to let your imagination take the lead. Create a mental picture of what would look good and then simply start sewing. Taking a start would be difficult but once you will start stitching, a pattern would develop on its own.

I have been cross stitching for the last 3 years. I started practicing cross stitching just after my marriage and slowly learned the art. I have finally mastered it to a great extent and I am extremely happy that my designs are very popular among my customers. I am sharing some of my masterpieces with the hope that you will like them and take inspiration from them.

My personal favorite pattern is the one in the picture above. The idea behind this pattern is my son’s love for animals. So, I started by stitching the four animals which my son likes the most. Afterwards, I wrote his birth date, time and his weight to keep a birth record. You can try the same with different animals or take inspiration from this to create a unique birth record for your baby.

Praying before going to sleep is a very good habit and your child must do this before going to bed. I just stitched this good habit so that it stays in front of his eyes throughout. There is so much creativity that can be incorporated in the pattern. From the bedsheet design to the design of the bed, you can play with a lot of things in this pattern. I made this design for my sister’s son and wrote his name, birth date and his weight. It took me 2 days to complete this one.

This design is not my creation. This one was made by my cousin and I loved it so much that I thought to include it in this post. She designed this pattern for her baby boy and it’s a great representation of a father and son relationship. The hand of a child in the hand of his father is something very touchy and is inspiring at the same time.

These 2 cross stitch patterns are also great but again I can’t take credit for these. A beautiful lady sold me these two masterpieces when I had gone on vacations and both of them are so good that I thought to include them in this list of cross stitched patterns for my babies.

If you love to do cross stitching and plan to have a baby then you should take out some time to first master stitching and then create a design for the baby. From designing funny cartoon characters to incorporating graphic representations of cute animals and from writing a special message to writing your baby’s name, it’s all up to you what you want to do. If you can’t come up with anything on your own, you can always ask you partner for ideas!

That Time of the Year – Christmas Designs

Christmas is a wonderful occasion which is celebrated with religious zeal all around the world. I love the Christmas festivities a lot and try to do something new every year to enjoy it as much as possible. It’s all the better that Christmas is a great occasion for making cross stitched designs! I am very fond of cross stitching and started practicing it when I was just 9 years old. My maternal family have been running a cross stitched design business for the past 15 years to great success. They stitch and sell to generate revenue and it’s been going so good that they have now even hired some workers to promote the business.

Last year was great as I got to stitch a great number of Christmas designs. We had received a huge order for our designs just a week before Christmas and almost everybody in the family got to work in order to complete the designs.

One of my favorites from last year was this mini Christmas tree and it took only few hours to complete. The design is very simple and the great thing about it is that it is easy to stitch. I used five colors in this project and you can use more according to your requirements. I knew that the design would land up in the hands of a 7 year old kid so I tried to make it as colorful as possible.

Another one of my favorites from last year’s creations was the design of Santa Clause. The customer was a father who wanted to to gift his son a cross-stitched design of Santa Claus on Christmas.

I used 12 colors on this project and added a statement from my side wishing ‘Merry Christmas’. I completed this task in a day and handed it over to my customer on the eve of Christmas so that he won’t be late with his gift.

This is another project which I stitched last Christmas for one of my valuable customers. She is my friend and every year I spend some quality time with her on Christmas. She had suggested about making a Christmas tree with gifts lying around as a design and I thought about giving the same design to her as a gift. I felt inspired while creating this and therefore, added two kids who were really happy in the design as well. Knowing how she loves puppies, I added that as well to make her all the happier. Even though it took me three days to complete this, the smile on my friend’s face was all that mattered!

There were 2 more designs which I stitched last year though they were both very simple. In the first design I wrote ‘Happy Merry Christmas’ and the second one was also similar to it. I love this art and being busy with stitching unique designs feels great!

Cross Stitch Patterns for Valentines

Love is life and without love there is no sense of life. Love is really a special thing and there are some moments when you express your love in different ways to your loved ones. Valentine’s Day is such an occasion in which lovers express their love in many different ways but designing a cross stitch pattern of love is a unique and creative way of telling your love how much you adore them.

In this post, I am going to tell you about how to design a cross stitch pattern for Valentine’s Day. You can try many different things like writing your lover’s name in the center with hearts all around or you can also write any statement of love to express your feelings to your loved ones. There are a number of ways to express your feelings through cross stitching but the following two designs are the best of all.

I made this design for my love a few years back and he loved it very much. This art piece is very special for the ones you love. The five roses with leaves and a heart in the center make this design a true delight. I spent only 3 days to complete it and was very proud on my creation. A Total of 22 colors have been used in this design. The material type is Aida Generic White, the size of the design is 75 x 65 stitches, the sewing count is 14/inch, the sewn design size is 5.4 x 4.6 inches, the material size is 11.3 x 10.5 inches and the stitch style is cross stitch using 2 strands.

There is another design, which is also one of my favorites is shown below:

I made this design for my younger sister when she was 17. It was during the early days of my stitching career and I was very happy to create this. It took me around 15 days to complete this masterpiece and my sister still loves it. The same Aida Generic White material has been used in this design. It makes use of 25 colors, the sewing count is 14 inch, design size is 105 x 90 stitches, the sewn design size is 7.5 x 6.4 inches, material type is 13.4 x 12.3 inches and the same cross stitch style using 2 strands.

Both of these designs are my favorite and are very easy to make as well. So, if you want to give a special gift to the love of your life on this valentine’s win then gifting them any of the above cross-stitch designs would be a smart choice on your behalf.
